Wonder Woman surges to box office success as first weekend pulls in impressive haul.

DC fans have had it rough recently with Suicide Squad and Batman V Superman both disappointing, but Wonder Woman staring Gal Gadot seems to have reversed this trend, hauling in an impressive $105M domestically.

Worldwide, sales figures reached past $233M; for a comparison, the production cost was only $149M. Not only is this a critical and commercial success, Rotten Tomatoes rates the film as 93% "Fresh," and perhaps most importantly for the industry as a whole, the film was produced by a woman director.

Patty Jenkins served as director of her first film in 13 years, whom has smashed every conceivable record for a female director, opening up the audiences within the industry to the belief that massively successful films can be directed by a woman lead.
