The gunman who opened fire on Republican congressmen
practicing for a charity baseball game has been identified as James T.
Hodgkinson of Belleville, Illinois. Hodgkinson is said to have been a supporter
of Bernie Sanders and strongly against Republicans and President Donald Trump.
He died after being shot by two Capitol Police who were at Eugene Simpson Stadium
Park in Alexandria, Virginia to protect House Whip Steve Scalise.

Scalise, congressional staffer Zach Barth, lobbyist Matt
Mika, and Capitol Police officers Krystal Griner and David Bailey were all wounded.

"Congressman Scalise is a friend, and a very good
friend. He's a patriot. And he's a fighter. He will recover from this assault
-- and Steve, I want you to know that you have the prayers not only of the
entire city behind you, but of an entire nation, and frankly the entire world.
America is praying for you and America is praying for all of the victims of
this terrible shooting,” President Trump said in a statement.
