Living Colour - "American Skin (41 Shots)" Montreux 2001

Living Colour performing "American Skin (41 Shots)" (a Bruce Springsteen cover) live at the Montreux Jazz Festival on July 20th 2001. Part 6 of 6.

I’m very angry and sad about the murder of George Floyd. In fact I feel speechless. But I know I must speak up and urge my followers to stand up, speak up, and rise up so we can help put an end to the violence, the injustice, and the killings. It’s a privilege to have a platform and to have a voice so I will use my voice. I want to encourage those following me to use their voices too. We cannot stay silent. Silence equals violence and the more we stay silent and ignore what is going on, the more these inhumane hateful killings will happen.
President Obama says "It falls on all of us....to work together to create a "new normal" in which the legacy of bigotry and unequal treatment no longer infects our institutions or our hearts." He is right. Everyone needs to fight towards equality and justice. "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." - MLK Jr.

I believe music helps to bring people together. This music video (link in my story) is super powerful. Living Colour covers Springsteen’s song “41 Shots.” Tears roll down my cheeks, as tears roll down their cheeks as they sing: "It ain't no secret, you can get killed just for living in your American skin." Please watch it, let the lyrics sink in, let the sorrow sink in, let the anger sink in, and please use those intense feelings to RISE UP & SPEAK UP.
