Managing an Estate Without a Will

If a loved one passes away without a will (known as “dying intestate”), Indiana probate laws and rules determine inheritance. Typically, the spouse and children have priority. If there are no children, parents, siblings, or other relatives may inherit. While this legal process aims to be fair, it limits the family's control over property distribution. Additionally, the probate court appoints an administrator to manage the estate, taking on the role an executor would have in a will.
