Close-Up TV News recognizes Island Estates Contracting for its remarkable and enduring contribution to the communities of Long Island.

Island Estates is a Long Island-based real estate company that specializes in the development of residential communities. Since 1962 Island Estates has built thousands of homes, single family residents, multi-family condominiums and apartments, all over Long Island, including Stony Brook, Melville, Miller Place, Ronkonkoma, Centereach and Glen Cove.

“We build the homes, but you build the memories.” says Len Axinn, president of Island Estates Contracting. ““People raise their families in the homes we build and I can tell you it feels so great to drive through a community we’ve built years later and see how it’s grown and the pride people take in their homes. That’s the way it should be.”

One of the things that has contributed heavily to the continued success of Island Estates is its diversity, handling every step of the process of development from conception through collaboration with community leaders to construction and even sales.

Resistance is typical when it comes to development on Long Island; each project is met with an almost overwhelming opposition regardless of the developer’s intentions. Island Estates prides itself on its ability to work through these initial roadblocks by inviting the community’s input into the project early on. Axinn and his team will have numerous meetings with local civics associations to develop relationships with community leaders

“It becomes very hard for them to oppose you when you’ve been responsive to them,” says Axinn. “When you approach the project as a collaboration it’s more likely to be successful. In order to get approvals the town wants to know the developer going to deliver a quality product. When you start showing them a track record that goes back to 1962 they have the confidence to support our project.”
