Environmental Dilemma:
A metal drain pan was used to collect condensate and hold dehumidification water for an HVAC unit that had corroded and in desperate need of repair. Water had been leaking into the AHU room floor causing slick conditions and a microbial nightmare. The pan was attached to a larger unit that would have been very costly to replace and would have required the removal of coil supports. The drain pan was rusted all the way through and the only option was to replace the entire AHU until they heard of PURE-Liner the drain pan protection system. Instead of replacing the AHU at a cost of tens of thousands of dollars the service team at Building Remediation Sciences resurfaced the existing pan with a flexible sheet membrane liner called PURE-Liner. This repair method allowed the old pan to be used without further corrosion, eliminated the need to remove or replace the AHU or any of the unit’s components and was performed without any downtime.
Project overview:
As a result of their extensive HVAC maintenance background the US NAVY hired Building Remediation Sciences’ and its environmental maintenance team to repair the aging HVAC unit that had a leaky evaporator coil drain pan. The work took one evening to clean the drain pan, dry it and replace it with PURE-Liner a Green Guard certified a no VOC product. Additionally, all of this was performed at a substantial savings over “pour-in-pan” resurfacing techniques.
Results:
Building Remediation Sciences repaired the HVAC drain pan at a fraction of the cost of installing an entirely new unit. PURE-Liner is a specially produced sheet membrane system incorporating unique resins and antimicrobial technologies to provide a drain pan and AHU protection system solution and since it is more durable and long-lasting than typical metal pans it saves the US NAVY future maintenance costs.
