R.A. Dickey was so proud of his knuckleball that he wanted to show it off all night long. Unfortunately, a tight muscle in his neck and back reigned in that idea six innings into the game. After Dickey bowed out the Toronto Blue Jays won 3-1 thanks to two hits by Rajai Davis. The knuckleball thrown by Dickey was a terror that night, especially for catcher Tyler Flowers, who was not used to batting against someone who is so good at it. The soreness that Dickey felt started last week but wasn’t so bad he couldn’t finish the game. According to Dickey, it actually got better over the course of the week so he felt well enough to step onto the mound against the White Sox. Eleven White Sox batters fell to Dickey before Alex Rios hit a two-out single in the fourth. After Dickey struck out Dewayne Wise for the second out of the sixth, George Poulis and Gibbons discussed taking Dickey out, but he remained in the game to finish the inning. After that, Dickey could be seen rubbing his upper back on the way from the dugout to the clubhouse at the end of the inning. Manager John Gibbons says of R. A Dickey, “He’s a tough guy, I’m sure we’ll see him in five days.”
