Texas Rangers president Nolan Ryan says star outfielder Josh Hamilton is “very distraught” over Thursday’s tragic death of Rangers fan Shannon Stone. Stone, who was attending the game with his young son, toppled over railing and fell 20 feet while trying to catch a ball Hamilton threw into the outfield stands. The Brownwood, Texas firefighter hit concrete below headfirst. He died while being transported to John Peter Hospital.
Ryan said Hamilton "is very distraught over this, as the entire team is.” "As an organization, and as our team members and our staff, we're very heavy-hearted about this, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the family,” he added.
The accident comes one year after another fan fell over railing while trying to catch a foul ball. Tyler Morris survived his 30 foot fall, but sustained serious injuries.
