Wilson Ramos, a catcher for the Washington Nationals, was kidnapped from his Venezuela home this week. According to reports, four armed men stormed Ramos’ Santa Ines home on Wednesday and forced the 24-year-old into a waiting SUV. It is believed Ramos was taken for ransom, but as of Thursday morning the kidnappers had not contacted anyone with demands.
A spokesperson for the Aragua Tigers, the Venezuelan baseball team Ramos plays with during Major League Baseball's off-season, confirmed there has been no news of Ramos since his abduction. "We are still waiting for any news about Wilson Ramos ... all the authorities are working in the case ... We need to be patient and pray," Kathe Vilera Tweeted.
Nationals pitchers Drew Storen and Jon Lannan also tweeted about Ramos’ abduction. “Extremely upsetting news about Ramo. Thoughts and prayers with him. Scary situation," Storen wrote.
“Thoughts and prayers go out to Wilson Ramos and his family,” Lannan Tweeted.
Ramos was traded to the Nationals in 2010 after a brief stint with the Minnesota Twins. He played 113 games for the Nationals in 2011.
