Parkland Shooting Survivor Has Harvard Rescind Acceptance Offer After Racist Remarks Surface Online

Kyle Kashuv, who is a survivor of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Parkland Florida School Shooting, had his offer from Harvard to attend the prestigious university rescinded after racists remarks surfaced online.

A shared Google document and text messages began to surface online by fellow students and even were published by Huffpost. Kashuv repeatedly used the N-word and referred to black athletes at the school as “n*****jocks”.


Following the surfacing of the documents and the pull back of the acceptance offer, Kyle Kashuv announced the news Twitter. In his announcement, he posted letters he exchanged with Harvard officials, which began late last month.


Kashuv goes on to say in a tweet on May 22, “We were 16-year-olds making idiotic comments, using callous and inflammatory language in an effort to be as extreme and shocking as possible. I’m embarrassed by it, but I want to be clear that the comments I made are not indicative of who I am or who I’ve become in the years since.”

Kashuv has continued to express that he “never meant to hurt anyone” and that he feels he is “no longer the same person, especially win the aftermath of the Parkland shooting and all that has transpired since.”

William R Fitzsimmons, Harvard’s dean of admissions sent Kashuv a letter asking him to explain himself to which Kashuv sent back a length apology. However, on June 3, Harvard revoked his acceptance.
