I’m in the middle of planning a move across Des Moines and trying to figure out how to make it as organized as possible without blowing the budget. Some companies seem to offer packing, while others just focus on transport, so it’s hard to compare. I’ve been looking at This site lists movers for the Des Moines area, which helps get a better idea of what’s available, but I’d love to hear if anyone has tips for staying on top of everything during the process.

I moved within Des Moines last fall, and the best thing I did was start packing early and labeling everything by room. That way, the movers didn’t waste time asking where boxes should go. I also set aside one box with essentials — bedding, kitchen basics, toiletries — so I didn’t have to dig through everything the first night. Even though the movers handled the heavy lifting, those small steps really made it easier and kept the cost down since the job went faster.
One thing that helps with any move is timing. Booking a crew outside of peak weekends or end-of-month dates usually means more availability and sometimes even lower rates. Plus, the whole process feels less rushed when you’re not competing with half the city trying to move at the same time.
