Manufacturing Site Security Services Research Report:the market size is projected to reach USD 9.91 billion by 2030

Stepper motors, brushless DC motors, DC motors, and AC induction motors are the four major mainstream products in the motor field. Each of them has its own unique performance advantages and is widely used in industrial automation, consumer electronics, automobiles, home appliances and other fields. In order to achieve accurate and efficient control of these motors, the microcontroller unit (MCU) used for motor driving plays a vital role.

Stepper motors are often used in situations that require precise positioning and low-speed and smooth operation, such as 3D printers and CNC machine tools, with their precise step angles and good position retention. For the drive of stepper motors, MCUs need to have accurate pulse generation capabilities and powerful computing power to process complex step control algorithms to ensure that stepper motors can accurately rotate according to the predetermined step distance.

Brushless DC motors are widely used in drones, electric vehicles, home appliances and other fields with their high efficiency, low noise and long life. The control of brushless motors depends on electronic commutation technology. MCUs need to integrate advanced PWM (pulse width modulation) control and FOC (field oriented control) algorithms to achieve efficient operation and precise speed regulation of motors.

DC motors are widely used in power tools, toy cars, small fans and other products due to their simple structure, low cost and large starting torque. In DC motor control, MCU is mainly responsible for speed regulation and current protection. It controls the speed and torque of the motor by adjusting the voltage or current, and monitors the motor status to prevent overload or overheating.

AC induction motors, with their high power density and easy maintenance, dominate the fields of large-scale mechanical equipment, industrial production lines, wind power generation, etc. In AC motor control, MCU usually adopts vector control or V/F control strategy to achieve smooth start, efficient operation and precise speed regulation of the motor by accurately controlling the proportional relationship between voltage and frequency.

In general, motor drive MCU is a solution designed for the field of motor control. It integrates industry-leading advanced control algorithms and excellent high-performance power output capabilities. It is developed for efficient and precise motor drive tasks to meet the needs of diversified motor control systems.

According to the new market research report "Motor Drive MCU - Global Market Share and Ranking, Overall Sales and Demand Forecast 2025-2031", published by QYResearch, the global Motor Drive MCU market size is projected to grow from USD 3224 million in 2024 to USD 4682 million by 2031, at a CAGR of 5.48% during the forecast period.

From the perspective of manufacturers, the core manufacturers of motor drive MCUs worldwide mainly include NXP, STMicroelectronics, Microchip, Infineon, Renesas Electronics, Texas Instruments, Fortior Technology, Nuvoton, Toshiba, Nanjing Linko Semiconductor, etc. In 2024, the world's first-tier manufacturers mainly include NXP, STMicroelectronics, Microchip and Infineon, and the first-tier manufacturers account for about 56.08% of the market share; the second-tier manufacturers include Renesas Electronics, Texas Instruments, Fortior Technology and Nuvoton, etc., with a total share of 13.35%. In recent years, domestic Chinese manufacturers have a certain competitiveness in the low- and mid-end markets by virtue of the end of iteration and price advantages, but the industry is highly competitive, with many players, and the global TOP10 share has reached 71.87%. In order to gain a foothold in the market and obtain a certain market share, new entrants cannot be limited to the competition in the low- and mid-end markets, but need to actively seek breakthroughs in the high-end field.

From the perspective of product types, 32-bit MCUs have an important position and high performance. They are often used in high-end and complex scenarios, such as automobiles and robots. 32-bit MCUs are the most important type in the motor drive segment. As the networking and intelligent needs of terminal devices in the consumer, industrial, and automotive markets become mainstream, the complexity of tasks in the Internet of Things era has led to a rapid increase in chip performance requirements and higher and higher requirements for chip processing capabilities, prompting MCUs to move from 8-bit and 16-bit to 32-bit. It is expected that the share will reach 72.83% in 2031.

In terms of application, motor drive MCUs are mainly used in motors, such as brushed DC motors, brushless DC (BLDC) motors/permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM), induction motors or stepper motors, while the motor terminals are home appliances (including white appliances and small appliances), automobiles, robots, industrial servo systems, power tools, etc. At present, they are widely used in the fields of home appliances and automobiles, with a total share of 63.6% in 2024, of which the CAGR of automobiles in the next few years is about 8.09%.
